So by now you have your A level results and your all ready to begin your new life as a student. While leaving home can be daunting, starting university is also one of the most exciting times in your life. As long as you choose the right student accommodation. Here at LetPads, we are Preston’s leading student accommodation experts. As a result, we have produced this guide to choosing student accommodation.

Student halls/ Halls of residence

These are managed by the university itself and this acts as a halfway point between living at home and being totally independent.

In student halls you can have all the social benefits of living on campus, but you wont need to pay bills. As a result, these can be a popular choice for first year students.

However, there are some issues with student halls including:

  • the noise- when you need to be up at 9 am and the flat above are still up having fun, it can be a nightmare.
  • the mess- with 8-15 people in a flat you can expect the shared areas to get very messy indeed, and not all of your flatmates will be interested in helping you keep it clean!

Private accommodation

A private student rental is a great idea for all students and can include anything from a one bedroom flat, to an 8 bedroom house share.

If you are a mature student, private student accommodation can be a great way to maintain your usual lifestyle, without having to share with a lot of 18 yr olds. Alternatively, if you are new to university, and student halls arent for you, private accommodation can be a fantastic opportunity.

However, private accommodation can mean that you will need to manage your own bills and budget, which can be a big responsibility.
