It’s the last day of Movember today. And we are approaching the end of the first term for UCLAN students across Preston. And for some, this can be a very stressful time of the year. Whether you’re a first year thinking about returning home for the holidays, or a third year cramming for exams, it’s common for the blues to start kicking in around this time of year. In fact, some of you won’t make it back to university after the holidays. Between November and January is a period of time with one of the highest drop out rates! So how can you beat the end of term blues, and get back on your A game? Well, here at Let Pads, we provide a range of luxury student accommodation properties across Preston, and we know a thing or two about student life. So, this is our guide to help you beat the end of term blues.

Beat the end of term blues

If the end of the first term is getting you down, you might consider:

  • Taking more breaks- this can be a stressful time of year with exams and deadlines emerging. But overworking yourself, or worrying too much, is only a bad thing. Make sure you take regular breaks. And while physically leaving your laptop and getting some fresh air can be perfect, you should also think about distracting your brain too. Give your brain something else to think about for a short time, and you’ll find you come back more motivated, refreshed and energized.
  • Connecting with others- when we feel disheartened, burnt out, or worried, we tend to keep to ourselves. But what we often need to do, is talk to the people around us. You don’t necessarily have to share your feelings, but simply chatting with one of your housemates, or chilling out together, can make the world of difference. Why not cook a meal, or bake cakes to share with your friends? This will keep your brain occupied, and give you some human contact too.
  • Take care of yourself- while you might be so caught up in work you feel like you have no time for anything else, that’s not always the case. You can take time out to look after yourself. Take some exercise, or have a bath, or both. Your body will feel refreshed and this can have a big influence on your brain too!
