If you’re starting university in September, or switching to a new university, you’re probably already thinking about student accommodation. Whichever accommodation you choose will be your new home for the year. So making the right choice is essential. But how can you choose? Well, one oft he first decisions you’ll need to make is the type of student accommodation you want. Here at Let Pads, we are Preston’s leading student accommodation experts, and we specialize in providing privately owned student accommodation that provides a high standard of living. But you could also opt for university halls of residence. As a result, we have produced this guide to the different types of student accommodation, so you can make a more informed decision.

Types of student accommodation

So, what are the different types of accommodation you can choose from? Well, these are the three most popular options:

  • Halls of residence
  • Private house or flat
  • Private halls

Hall of residence

Halls of residence are run by the university themselves, and are usually located on-campus. In some halls you will simply be renting your room, and will have a shared bathroom, kitchen and living space with others on your floor. In others, you will have a room and an en-suite, and some even include meals and in-house canteens. The primary group of students living in hall rooms are students in their first year, and student halls are a great way to get to know other new students.

Privately rented student accommodation

This type of accommodation is preferred by returning students. Typically, student houses are found dotted around the University City. But here at Let Pads, all of our accommodation is in easy walking distance from the university itself, and the City Centre.

Privately rented accommodation is available to provide quality student living. From one and two bedroom flats, to 8 bed-roomed houses, there are a lot of choices and options available. You can move in with friends, and experience more independence, and more realistic adult living.

If you are privately renting, you will need an agreement with a landlord. Some properties may not include bills in the monthly cost, so you will also have to factor this expense into your choice. Here at Let Pads, all of our student accommodation properties have bills included in the monthly cost.

Private halls

Another option is private halls. Private halls are similar to university halls of residence, so you are renting a bedroom and ensuite, with a kitchen and living space that is shared by others on your floor. Private halls are usually situated a little further away from the University. These are managed by a private company, and may include a gym, parking and other perks.
