When viewing student accommodation for your next year, it can be easy to want to give the property, and the letting agent, the benefit of the doubt. And in some cases, this compromise can help you secure the property you wished for. But in most instances, you could be left with a sub-par home for the next academic year. And this can make your studies, and your student life, pretty miserable. Here at Let Pads, we are Preston’s number one student accommodation providers. And we provide only the highest quality homes and properties, in great locations. But not all accommodation providers can make this claim. As a result, we have produced this guide to the compromises you shouldn’t make for student accommodation.
Compromises you shouldn’t make for student accommodation
So, what are the things you should not compromise on, when viewing your next student accommodation property? Well, there are several, including:
- Pests- if you notice any signs of pests, like rats, mice or insects, you should probably avoid this property. Even if the landlord promises to have the property cleared for you, there is no guarantee that they will, or that the initial problem that caused the pests, will be rectified.
- Damp- damp patches in older properties, like most terraced homes, can be normal and not an issue. But if you notice a damp smell, any mold or mildew growing, or the walls feel wet to the touch, you should avoid this property. Damp and associated mold can cause a range of respiratory issues and make you sick. And if they do decide to solve the problem, any work on the property could disrupt your day to day activities.
- Budget- Finding the perfect property, and then realizing that bills and WiFi are not included in the monthly or quarterly price can be a nightmare. But if this puts the property above your budget, you shouldn’t compromise, unless you can be sure of increasing your income with more work. Financial burdens that are more than you can afford can seriously damage your mental health, and your studies.
