The recently completed Engineering Innovation Centre (EIC) at UCLan has won its first industry award, as it was named Building Services Project of the Year (North West) at the 2019 Specifi awards for the mechanical and electrical work carried out by BDP. This is great news for the University, and for prospective students, as the EIC has not officially opened yet, and it will have it’s first intake of students this academic year.
What is the Engineering Innovation Centre (EIC)?
So, what is this new facility, that has cost around £35 million to create? Well, this is a facility that has been designed to establish UCLan as one of the UK’s leading universities for engineering innovation. It is set to train hundreds of graduated a year, in industry areas that include aerospace, mechanical and energy technologies and engineering. The centre will focus on driving innovation and new discoveries in industry fields such as 3D printing, artificial intelligence, drone technology and The Internet of Things.
This is also great news for Preston, as it will cement the City, and Lancashire, as one of the most valuable, and well known, engineering and manufacturing regions in the UK.
UCLan’s Chief Operating Officer, Michael Ahern, said:
