With online learning something that all students have had to adapt to this past year, university learning has transformed. And part of this also involves online exams. If you are not used to taking online examinations, or you have general exam anxiety, this can be a very daunting prospect. So how can you make sure that you’re prepared? And how can have the best chance of success?
What are the important steps for preparing for online examinations?
There are a number of important steps you should take to prepare for online exams. These include:
- Revising- as with any exam, it’s a good idea to revise all of the main content, and everything that might come up on the exam. Make sure you have a thorough knowledge of the subject area, and don’t leave the revision until the last minute. Instead, set aside some time each day in the week leading up to the exam, to give yourself the best chance.
- Technology- before the exam, you should make sure that you have access to a strong WiFi signal, and that you have any software you might need installed and ready to use. The last thing you want is a technology problem on the day, so prepare in advance.
- Preparing your space- depending on the exam conditions, you will need to make sure that you treat this online exam like any other. This means removing your phone and other distractions from the examination area, and preferably from the room altogether.
- Exam conditions- make sure you are clear on the exam conditions before you begin. You will need to know if the exam is open or closed book, and there may be some rules about being present on zoom throughout the exam.
