UCLan’s application for a new state of the art vet school has been accepted by Preston City Council’s Planning Committee on Thursday (October 6). This will make UCLan only the second university in the North of England to have a dedicated vet school.
The new site for the vet school will be located at UCLan’s Greenbank Car Park, on Victoria Street at the Preston Campus. This new 45,000 square foot vet school will be the first of its kind in Lancashire and only the 11th in the entire UK.
Due to be completed by September 2024, The School of Veterinary Medicine will provide high quality, purpose built training facilities for students. This will include high-specification anatomical skills laboratories on three floors, with simulated clinical facilities including a pharmacy, diagnostic suite, and simulated operating theatres. There will also be a microscopy laboratory and dental room built alongside a variety of teaching rooms and office spaces.
The ground floor section of the Greenbank Building will also be refurbished, to include kennel facilities, simulated consultation rooms and a rehabilitation suite. This will be in addition to other veterinary teaching and clinical skills’ facilities as well as a hub for undergraduate and postgraduate course students and staff in veterinary medicine, bioveterinary science, veterinary clinical practice, veterinary physiotherapy and rehabilitation, and clinical animal behaviour and training.
