For this year’s Darwin Day public lecture, taking place at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), the theme is mental health. Measuring Mental Health will be delivered by Dr Suzi Gage on Monday 13th February.
The Darwin Day public lecture is an annual event to commemorate the birthday of Charles Darwin. The day is used to highlight Darwin’s contributions to science and to promote science in general.
Dr Gage is an award winning, Research Lead for Metrics in Mental Health at the Wellcome Trust, a psychologist and epidemiologist. She has a specific interest in understanding the causal nature of associations between lifestyle behaviours and mental health, as well as recreational drug use on mental health, producing the podcast called ‘Say Why To Drugs’.
Speaking about the event, organiser Dr Mike Eslea, Senior Lecturer in Psychology, said:
“After a two-year break due to Covid, we are delighted to be back hosting the annual Darwin Day Celebration Lecture. The lecture is an important academic event as Darwin Day is a worldwide celebration of science and reason, and we have hosted 14 previous lectures by distinguished academics.”
The free talk will begin at 7pm, with arrivals from 6pm, and will take place in the 450-seater Darwin Lecture Theatre, on the Preston Campus. To reserve your spot, please register online – https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/darwin-day-celebration-lecture-2023-tickets-510629605897
