Preston Mela Returns
A well-loved festival returns to Preston park this weekend. Preston City Mela, which celebrates South Asian culture, arts, music, dance and heritage, will feature a host of stage entertainment, roaming entertainment, workshops and stalls on Saturday June 17 at Moor Park. The organisers of the festival and the Mela board and its partners are all very excited to bring a packed programme of South Asian and commonwealth heritage arts to Preston’s annual cultural programme. It is the 26th year, the 2023 Mela includes performances by Nirmal Sidu, PBN and lots of local and national artists, with workshops including flower garland making, henna artists and sari draping. There will also be fun fair rides and a selection of South Asian food outlets.
A variety of community organisations will also be part of the event including local schools and public services, emergency services plus a range of community organisations. The stage entertainment runs from 10:30 until 5:30 and workshops from 11am until 4pm and entrances is free.
Animal Lovers to join RSPCA Fun Day
Animal lovers are invited to join in the celebrations at the RSPCA’s one fun day, which will be held across England and Wales- including Preston. The event is taking place on Saturday June 17.
The One Fun Day event is back and promised to be bigger and better than ever. Residents from the Preston area are invited to join the RSPCA at their Penwortham, Chorley and Longridge charity shops for a day of animal-themed fun, and exclusive offers, for all the family.
Dozens of events will be happening simultaneously across England and Wales, in a bid to raise much-needed funds for the animals in the care of the RSPCA’s network of branches and animal centres, including the charity’s rehoming centre at Longridge Road in Ribbleton.
Windrush Festival
The Windrush Festival, hosted by the Windrush initiatives, has been taking place in Preston for the past 9 years.
Windrush Festival is an event that marks the arrival of the first 492 passengers of Empire Windrush that left Jamaica on May 24 1948 and arrived at Tilbury, Essex on June 22, 1948. Caribbean food, singers and dancers provide entertainment during the festival, ready to perform for your enjoyment. Each year, the festival is held to encourage more people to learn about and remember the Windrush generation and they hope to continue this tradition to keep their memory alive for the younger generations. This event is on Sunday 18 June.
Rockprest returns
The UK’s largest tribute act festival is a fantastic day out for the whole family and its returning. Now in its ninth year, Rockprest, for the time in the festival’s history, will bring three stages of outstanding tribute acts to Moor Park, Preston. Enjoy fairgrounds rides, food, drinks and of course your favourite rock songs. Don’t miss this event on Sunday 9 July 11-10pm.
