When it comes to Preston, you can rest assured that we, here at LetPads, know what we are talking about. Working closely with UCLAN, we know just how overwhelming and daunting it can be when, as a student, you move to a whole new city. But, luckily for you, we have produced this guide to discovering your new city.

Explore on foot

As a smaller city, Preston city centre is easy to navigate and as everything is close together, you dont need to worry about getting lost. As a result, it is the perfect place to explore by foot. In fact, your UCLAN buildings are only 5 minutes walk away from the centre of this growing city.

With pubs and restaurants, shops, parks, and museums all within walking distance of each other, its easy to explore Preston on foot. So just dig out your smartphone and let Google maps help.

Cycling

In recent years, Preston has worked hard to create safe, designated cycle paths. This has included a 21-mile cycling route, called the Guild Wheel, specifically designed to allow cyclists to take in some of the greenery and views that Preston has to offer. As a result, this is a fantastic way to get to know your new city, and take in the views and scenery of the Ribble valley and the Lancashire countryside. It’s also a great way to meet new people, why not invite your flatmates?

Explore the history

Knowing your way around isnt the only way to get to know a new city. It’s also important to learn about your new city, and get to know a bit about it. Preston is full of history, and you will see markers of this dotted around outside. But why not visit the Harris Museum, or the Museum of Lancashire to find out more? Easily located within walking distance of UCLAN and our student accommodation, these two museums can really help you feel at home.
