For many of you students, housing is basically one giant icebox. Sometimes landlords avoid double glazing and proper heating all together making it cold from Spring right through to Winter. November is already setting in and the cold weather is definitely here to stay, and being a student living in what is essentially a snow globe, here are a few ways on how you can keep warm this Winter, from us here at Letpads!
Layer Up
This doesn’t just mean your favourite woolly jumper and a pair of thick socks, it means remembering what your mum always taught you: a vest under your top, under a shirt under a jumper, and in extreme cases, under a jacket or a coat. Thinner layers are better as they help trap the heat more efficiently keeping you warmer for longer. Throw a hot water bottle into the mix too!
Double your Duvet
Make yourself into a sandwich by placing one duvet underneath you and one on top, you don’t need to spend loads of buying a new one, shops such as Wilkinson’s and Primark are very student friendly and won’t make you pay through the nose for them.
Shut your Doors
If you’re living with roommates, there’s always going to be a few that like to open and close their doors at all hours throughout the day and into the night. Also, people tend to flit from room to room and stand in the doorway for a chat, it’s best to start shutting them as your accommodation will start trapping the heat, keeping you toasty and warm.
Do Some Exercise
As a student, this is probably the last on your list but it’s always great working up a sweat when you’re cleaning. Once you’ve finished, you can always jump into a hot shower and stay warm for the rest of the day then
