With the second term beginning it may seem too soon to be thinking about student accommodation for the next year. But there are only a few months until the end of the academic year. And if you are returning for a second, third or even a fourth year, you will need to find new student accommodation for September. But finding the perfect place can be more difficult than you might think, especially as you squeeze viewings into your busy study schedule. So what should you consider when viewing student accommodation?
What are the important consideration for viewing student accommodation?
- All for one- if you are planning on moving into student accommodation with a group of friends, make sure you all visit the property together. The last thing you want is for one of your friends to be uncomfortable or unhappy with the room or space for the following year, and deciding to go it alone instead, as you will then probably need to find a roommate to fill up the spare gap.
- Take a checklist- make sure you know what you are looking for in a property, including the number of bed and bathrooms, and the size of the living space. Try to avoid unrealistic expectations, but don’t settle for a property that is poorly finished, dirty or damaged either.
- Check the cost- while viewing the property make sure to check how much the rent is, and how this paid, as well as any bills or extra expenses that you should know about. This is important as additional bill costs can not only cause problems between you and your friends, but it can also make a property unaffordable.
